Most visitors who need a visa for a short trip to Indonesia use the B1 electronic Visa on Arrival (e-VOA), applied for on the Directorate General of Immigration's portal, evisa.imigrasi.go.id. It costs IDR 500,000 and gives a single-entry stay of up to 30 days, extendable once for another 30 days[1]. ASEAN passport holders, including Thai nationals, can enter visa-free for tourism instead.

Who can use the B1 e-VOA?

Eligibility is by passport. The B1 is only for nationals of the countries on Indonesia's visa-on-arrival list[1]. Check your passport on the portal's visa selection page (purpose: General, Family, or Social, then Tourism, Family Visit, and Transit) before you pay anyone. Some nationalities are offered only other visa types, and some do not appear in the portal's list at all; those travellers apply through an Indonesian embassy.

ASEAN passports, including Thai: you can enter visa-free for tourism (type A1) for up to 30 days, with no fee. That stay cannot be extended, so only apply for an e-VOA if you need more than 30 days.

What does the B1 e-VOA allow?

B1 e-VOA
Government fee IDR 500,000 for 30 days[1]
Entries Single entry[1]
Stay Up to 30 days from arrival, extendable once for 30 days[1]
Use by Within 90 days of issue
Passport At least 6 months' validity when you apply[1]
Ticket Return or onward ticket out of Indonesia[1]

You can use a B1 for travel, visiting family or friends, attending meetings, conventions, exhibitions or seminars, and transit[1]. You cannot sell goods or services, or receive pay or compensation from people or companies in Indonesia[1]. Overstaying or a prohibited activity can lead to fines, deportation or other legal charges.

How to apply

  1. Check that your passport is B1-eligible on the portal's visa selection page.
  2. Make sure your passport has at least 6 months' validity and you hold a return or onward ticket[1].
  3. Apply and pay on evisa.imigrasi.go.id.
  4. The e-VOA is sent to your portal account and email. Keep the PDF.
  5. On arrival, show your passport and outbound ticket. Complete the All Indonesia arrival card at allindonesia.imigrasi.go.id before you fly.

Going to Bali? There is a separate levy

Foreign tourists entering Bali pay the Bali Foreign Tourist Levy of Rp 150,000 per person, once per trip, online at lovebali.baliprov.go.id. It is set by the Bali Provincial Government and is not part of any visa fee.

What if you need more than 60 days?

A B1 holder cannot get a new visitor visa inside Indonesia once the stay runs out; you have to leave. If you need a longer stay or multiple entries from the start, Indonesia also issues the C1 single-entry tourist visa and the D1 multiple-entry tourist visa on the same portal. Check their requirements there before you travel.
