Application Process
You'll need to apply from outside Thailand, either online through the Thai e-Visa system or in person at a Thai embassy or consulate. The general steps are: gather your documents, submit your application (online or in person), wait for processing, then receive and print your approved e-Visa or collect your visa in person.
No. DTV applications must be submitted from outside Thailand. Many applicants travel to a neighboring country (Malaysia, Vietnam, Laos) or apply from their home country.
Typically 5–15 business days after submission, though this varies by embassy. Faster embassies include Kuala Lumpur and Vientiane; stricter or slower ones include Tokyo, Beijing, and New Delhi.
For in-person applications at many embassies, yes — you'll usually book an online appointment slot before attending. Online e-Visa applications don't require an appointment but may take longer to process.
The embassy reviews your documents and may contact you if anything is missing or unclear — keep your email and phone accessible during this period. Once approved, you'll either receive your e-Visa by email (to print and carry) or be asked to return to collect your passport in person.
You'll usually be told the reason — most commonly insufficient or unverifiable proof of funds. You can reapply once you've addressed the issue.
